Alright, so maybe Code Geass isn’t the best that Sunrise could have done. I’ve got a few bones to pick them. Spoilerage follows after the break.

So starting off, animation quality, or any other such ‘skin-deep’ qualities of the show have not dropped at all. Though there was a bit of a weird SyaoranSuzaku design fault in one of the scenes, the rest was pretty much up to the (rather high) standards set by the first episode. I’m really digging the non-CG mecha animation though, it’s one place Sunrise have outdone themselves in.

My major gripe here has to do with the fact that we’re given very little information about the LANCELOT unit right off the bat. Nor are we given any explanation as to why only Suzaku was chosen to pilot it–him being a lowly dog-soldier from a conquered nation too. All evidence right now points to the professor/doctor guy (I seriously am terrible with names) knowing that it is Lelouch behind the ‘terrorists’. There is simply no other reason why he would assign LANCELOT to Suzaku.

There’s also the fact that he, a simple soldier who appears not to have piloted a mecha in his life before, out-manoeuvres veterans with, I bet, tons more piloting experience than him. Just simply saying “because it’s a new mecha model!” will not cut it Sunrise. I know you tried it in Gundam SEED Destiny and look how terrible that was once it got to the “oh, I’ve got a newer/bigger mecha than you, thus I must be more powerful” point of no return.

That aside, I loved the other aspects of the episode. Especially the actual tactical planning that they put in. I’m beginning to like Lelouch as a character much more than your typical ‘goody two-shoes’ ‘shounen’ hero. One thing though, I just feel weird about his power. It seems a bit too powerful, and perhaps even silly at times. I can’t really explain what I mean, I don’t know much myself…

A brave attempt Sunrise, if you manage to pull through, this will be one heck of a show. Please don’t let it go the way of GSD. (The twist at the end was nice, keep that up)

Season Rankage:
- Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion (more of the same :) )
- Tokimeki Memorial

- Asatte no Houkou
- Yoake mae yori ruriiro na – Crescent Love -
- Negima?!

Lelouch iz ebil :V
I can feel it in me veins.
Indeedy!
Well, why then is he the main character…And evil as he is, I don’t see anyone else seriously able or in position to end the fighting. Not even the syoaran lookalike with his groovy bot.
Anyway, this is most likely the most blatant anti-American shot from an anime. Britannia is US, look at the map, lol.
Haha, yea, i noticed that anti-American bit when watching.
America has mecha but not Japan, oh the irony!
Yea, what irony. Especially given that mecha was pretty much invented by the Japanese. Who’s got a link to the news article about that Japanese walker?
