Aahh!! Killer Lolis! (The OP Version!)

Bah, don’t have the patience to do episode summaries, I tried writing one. It put me to sleep.

However, OPs! Now those are amazing, some are chock full of spoilers, fate/stay night, I’m looking at you while some are just light fluffy and fun. Higurashi, well, think of it as a mix of the two, except without the light fluffy fun, it’s far, far from being that. Mp3 version available here (courtesy of Anime on My Mind).

Well, then, going from the beginning it starts off with this butterfly perching on a lamp. For some reason, it really makes an impression; you known if the butterfly is comes into to contact with the bulb it will surely die, all that ‘protects’ it from death is a rather flimsy looking lamp frame. Yea, I know that it seems as if a butterfly won’t die if it touches that lamp but I’ve seen it happen before, it involved a rather unfortunate little moth and my bedside lamp, ‘nuff said. Kinda ironic that the butterfly is attracted to the lamp, light hides death eh? Reminds me of Keiichi, he’s attracted to the girls who ultimately cause his death in (so far) every arc. Could the butterfly be a symbol for him? Interestingly he isn’t actually shown in the OP at all…

 

Moving on, we see this thing opening up to show us the sun (or could it be the moon?). Don’t really know the significance of this… But hey, look, more pretty pictures!

 

Right, on I say! On to this picture of Rena. It strange how she’s the first character we actually see, could she be the ‘main’ character? Assuming there is such a thing of course.

 

*Gasp* A candle was snuffed out, now the magic circle is incomplete, the demon can finally escape. Heey…that actually makes sense in a twisted sort of way…

 

We see Rika, wearing a mask. Could this be related to the fact that she is the shrine maiden? Her removing the mask could mean that she has complete control over Oyashiro-sama’s curse…

 

These 3 pics show us the whole school incident that Rena did, however the fact that she’s bleeding and licking up her blood is chilling, this wasn’t shown in the original flashback of the incident in Onikakushi-hen. First appearance of Oyashiro-sama!!! Ph34r the cat-pupil eyes!

 

This image never fails to creep me out. I shudder every time I look at the demon carved into Mion’s back. The fact that they’re holding pinkies, could it be a yubikiri (pinky promise)? I find it strange that one of the twins opens her eyes…

 

Here we see the poor butterfly from all the way up there, dead. With torn wings. Again, ‘tis like Keiichi, he is destined to die at the end of each arc.

 

However Shion (it actually looks like Shion here 'cos of the long hair) goes into OYASHIRO mode while clutching (I’m guessing here) the butterfly, and thus indirectly Keiichi – rivalry between the sisters? Could Mion kill Keiichi and cause Shion to go into OYASHIRO mode?

 

Satoko…cries…Mourning for her brother Satoshi and her parents perhaps? She also says something here. I couldn’t quite get it but it seemed like she was saying either “Keiichi-kun” or “Onee-chan”. Interesting – in either case. It's also strange that those who were indirectly effected by Oyashiro-sama's curse never actually get infected with (Rika, Satoko). However, Rena does mention something about being able to make it back unlike 'poor Satoshi', I think it was in the first arc.

 

Finally it ends with Rena, the same way it started with her. We see her carrying her favourite implement of Mass Destruction – the carver! It petrified us in the first episode. I remember getting goosebumps at the sight of that thing! It also seems as if she is at the dump once again. Could we be treated to an explanation of the dismembering that we learnt in the first episode?
